‘Lunch Time’, my childhood memory: Iran Cannes selection director

Alireza Qasemi whose short film attending the 70th edition of Cannes Film Festival in France said in a media interview that the idea for making ‘Lunch Time’ comes from “my childhood memory at the age of 8 when I went to a hospital restaurant,” adding, “At that time a family who lost” a loved one were crying while others were busy eating their lunch and such contradiction had always been on my mind till it turned into an idea” for a film.

The 15-min film is about a high school girl who goes to the hospital to identify the body of her mother who has recently passed away.

‘Lunch Time’ became the official selection of Cannes Court Metrage (Cannes Short Film Corner) with the selection committee receiving 4843 short films from which 9 films from Finland, France, United Kingdom, Denmark, Greece, Iran, the US, Poland, China, Colombia and Sweden were chosen.

Meanwhile, in the Cinefondation selection at the 2017 Cannes Filmfest, another Iranian short film ‘Animal’ by Bahman Ark has been chosen from 2600 works submitted to this year’s edition.

The 70th edition of Cannes Film Festival will be organized on May 17-28, 2017 in the French city of Cannes.
